3D Modeling, Clash Detection & Resolution

3D models are built from 2D design information generated by the individual trade design teams usually consisting of:

  • Architecture
  • Structural
  • Mechanical
  • Electrical
  • Plumbing
  • Fire Protection

As the model for each level or area of the building is completed it then necessary to run the clash detection / resolution process.

Clash detection is preformed using specialist software, it identifies in detail exactly which trades are in spatial conflict and where.

The 3D coordinator then reviews the clash and gives direction to the 3D modeling team as to how to resolve. However, if the clash is likely to affect fit, form or function then the 3D coordinator reaches out to the relevant design authority to agree a solution which is then implemented.

A clash free 3D model is the most complete source and can be used as the Coordinated Services Drawing form which CBWD’s and sections may be extracted on demand.
