The global demand for reliable, high-performance data centres has never been greater, with hyperscale clients like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and ByteDance driving explosive growth. Positioned at the heart of this evolution is Dayone, formerly GDS, a leading China-based developer making bold moves into Southeast Asia.

Dayone recently rolled out five state-of-the-art data centres in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, just minutes from Singapore, one of the world’s most competitive digital hubs.

Leveraging innovative modular construction, Dayone achieved something remarkable: delivering 20MW+ facilities in as little as 13 months. This rapid build capability is a powerful advantage in a market where speed and scalability are everything.

Building for Trust and Reliability

To ensure these facilities meet the expectations of international clients, Dayone engaged PTS Consulting, who partnered with our team at Forsspac for a comprehensive due diligence audit.

Across five intensive days on-site, our experts (including Forsspac CEO Phil Thoburn and Greg Gillard our Director for Data Center Commissioning) reviewed the design, construction, and commissioning practices, identifying both strengths and areas for improvement.

The findings were clear: while Dayone’s speed to market is exceptional, future success will depend on aligning commissioning and documentation practices with global standards such as TIA-942 and Uptime Institute certifications.

What stood out to our experts the most was the commitment of Dayone’s Malaysian operations team.

Despite the challenges, they demonstrated professionalism, agility, and a strong drive to deliver reliable outcomes for end users.

Importantly, Dayone is using this audit as a springboard an opportunity to refine processes, strengthen reliability, and unlock greater trust with international hyperscale clients.
